OUTCOMES V CONSEQUENCES |
Seniors Here We GO! |
Graduating High School I was told exactly what Mr. Clements was told here "become a doctor, a lawyer, a dentist, an entrepreneur." At the time I wanted to become an architect designer, I liked to draw buildings, I knew it paid a lot. But what I did not know was I would have to take geometry (hated it), History of Architecture in America, Interior Design, etc. When did I figure this out? The first day I went to see an adviser (2 months before school started!) That meant I had a little under 60 days to enjoy my summer, take summer classes AND figure out a degree to pursue. My point? I was not prepared for the challenges of wanting to become an architect designer, because I was only taught the beautiful outcomes of becoming one.

You have now heard the concept "outcomes v consequences" in the video by Ryan Clements but we will refer to it as "OC" Analysis. As Mr. Clements discussed each career path that is available all have great outcomes (money, status, benefits) but they also have consequences. There will be harder consequences than easy outcomes that you will make for your career path, so let's take this serious for a moment. Let's take this a step further and I propose to you the follow:
1. What are the outcomes v consequences of the career path(s) that you are wanting to follow? For every career path lets write these down with a lot of thought. 2. After you have written these down lets compare them to your "who you are and what you are good at" papers. Do they align more together or no? |
Recognizing where you are in this process of your life is very important. We are wanting you to second guess the career path you think you might want to choose. So far you have heard the concept Outcomes v Consequences Analysis or "OC" Analysis. Let's break down what this means more:
Now is everyone's "OC" Analysis the same? No, everyone has their own individual OC Analysis. Referring back to the main two questions we proposed earlier in this course "Who are you?" "What are you good at" the deeper you go into those questions the easier the OC Analysis will make sense for your life.

Now that you have written down the outcomes v consequences from the challenge let's dig even deeper. As a senior, most of you know what school(s) you are interested in or know which one you are going to. Again either situation is fine, recognizing where you are is the important part. I want you to research the school(s) and the degree(s) that you are interested in attending and do the OC Analysis on them. Once you have completed the research let's make another video! In the video tell us base on your OC Analysis the following:
1. What school(s) you are interested in or going to and why you are interested in that school?
2. What degree program(s) are you interested in and why?
3. How does the school, degree program align with who you are and what you want to do?
